Deepen Your Practice

Group Meditation Practice Evenings

Once you’ve received meditation instruction you’re welcome to come to our weekly open meditation practice sessions, evenings or mornings. (See the calendar for details.)

Group practice in a peaceful setting encourages and inspires home practice. It is a wonderful support for establishing and sustaining a regular personal practice. It also fosters connections with fellow meditators and a sense of community. Families and children are quite welcome, and we make efforts to make our space accessible and accommodating to all.

If you have never meditated before, we recommend receiving meditation instruction before coming for group meditation practice. All traditions of meditation are quite welcome in our space.

Introductory Classes and Retreats

The Way of Shambhala is a series of weekend training meditation retreats and weeknight classes that thoroughly explore meditation and how it relates to our everyday life.

Week-long and month-long meditation retreats (“weekthüns” and “dathüns”) are offered at all Shambhala retreat centres in North America and Europe.

Individual Meditation Instruction

Shambhala meditation instructors are available to answer questions about meditation, offer advice on which courses to take, and work with you on an ongoing basis. Meditation instructors are senior Shambhala Buddhist practitioners trained and authorized to help you deepen and stabilize your understanding and experience of meditation.

Arrangements are individualized. They can range from a meeting or two to clarify points of practice to an ongoing relationship involving more regular meetings. The relationship is based on friendship, mentoring, and confidentiality.

To work with a meditation instructor, feel free to ask one you know, or contact our Meditation Instructor Coordinator at [email protected].

What to Expect

Depending on your interest and experience, ongoing instruction might include:

  • Individualized guidance on the path of practice and study to make the most of opportunities for classes, programs and retreats, as well as suggesting reading and contemplations.
  • Ways to join meditation and daily life to meet life’s ups and downs with a strong, pliable mind and an open heart.
  • Instruction on working with common obstacles to meditation– disheartenment, resistance, procrastination, discursiveness and spacing out.
