COVID-19 Guidelines for In Person events

Update on Re-Opening Plans – December 2021

The Shambhala Centre is beginning to gradually re-open our doors with COVID-19 protocols in place such as masking, distancing, and capacity limits.

Most in-person programming will also be streamed online via Zoom, and we ask anyone not fully vaccinated against COVID-19 to please participate online-only for the time being.

Even as we re-open our doors, we recognize that many people have enjoyed the accessibility of online programming, so we intend to continue to offer online programs long-term.  Our in-person options will be minimal to begin with, and will gradually increase over time.  We’re looking for volunteers to help with both in-person and online programming.  Please contact us at  [email protected]   to find out more about our volunteer opportunities.

Please read our guidelines for visitors and program participants, below.

Check the website regularly for information on in-person events and programs!

Pre-registration is required to reserve your spot in the shrine room.

COVID-19 – Guidelines for Visitors and Program Participants

The Ottawa Shambhala Centre has put measures in place to comply with Ottawa Public Health COVID-19 guidelines for Houses of Worship, including capacity limits, masking and social distancing requirements, and contact-tracing. More information is available here:  https://www.ottawapublichealth.ca/en/professionals-and-partners/covid-19-resources.aspx

Based on a survey of our membership and in the interests of keeping our community as safe as possible, our vaccination policy does go further than the OPH requirements for Houses of Worship. You can see the OSC COVID-19 Vaccination Policy here: https://ottawa.shambhala.org/covid-19-vaccination-policy/.   Most in-person programming will also be streamed online via Zoom, and we ask anyone not fully vaccinated against COVID-19 to please participate online-only for the time being.

All staff and participants to in-person events should have their proof of vaccination and identification available to show if requested.

We also ask that people respond to COVID screening questions before entering the Centre. The questions will be available at the entrance to the Centre; or, you can use this online tool from Ottawa Public Health before coming to the Centre: https://secureforms.ottawapublichealth.ca/screening-depistage/Workplaces-and-Post-Secondary

You must wear a mask at all times when inside the building, including within the Centre, unless otherwise indicated. There will be masks available at the Centre if you forget yours.

Please use hand sanitizer upon entering and as needed.

Please maintain social distancing at all times, including at the entrance, in the kitchen, and in the shrine rooms. Please use the floor markings as a guide in the shrine room to maintain distance.

There will be no food or drink served at the Centre.  You are welcome to bring drinks in from outside and may fill your water bottles at the sink. If you do not have a water bottle there are glasses in the cupboard to the upper right of the sink. These should be placed in the dishwasher when you are done.

Please record your name and contact information on the forms provided, for contact tracing purposes.

The maximum capacity for the Ottawa Shambhala Centre is 11 people total, including staff/teachers. You must pre-register online for in person events at the Centre. Once in person capacity has been reached, pre-registration will be closed, and a sign will be placed on the door to let people know.
