Parinirvana of Chögyam Trungpa Rinpoche

April 4th

Date details +

On April 4th, we celebrate the anniversary of the parinirvana (death of an enlightened being) of the Vidyadhara, Chögyam Trungpa Rinpoche, the founder of Shambhala and the teacher who first transmitted the Shambhala teachings on enlightened society to the west. On this date every year, we commemorate his life of teaching by practicing the Sadhana of Mahamudra.

In 1968, after fleeing Tibet, Chögyam Trungpa Rinpoche wrote the Sadhana of Mahamudra while in deep contemplation of how to bring Buddhism to the West. This profound sadhana invokes the wrathful manifestation of Padmasambhava (the father of Tibetan Buddhism) to help us overcome obstacles and confusion during this time.

This year, we invite you to join the practice online via Zoom with OCEAN and the Halifax Shambhala Centre.
