Winter Solstice and Children's Day Celebration for Adults and Children of all ages.

December 18th (2021)

Date details +

The winter solstice marks the time of year when daylight has waned and the night is the longest. Light is a special characteristic of this holiday. At a time when darkness is prevalent, we celebrate our children and their natural ability to remind us of the warmth, heart, and cheerfulness of basic goodness. It is an opportunity for families with young children and for the entire community to celebrate together.
Let’s gather outside to celebrate the light together. We will meet at sunset and walk together in a joyful lighted walk (glow wands provided). After, we can gather outside to socialize and enjoy a warm drink.
There is no charge for this event but donations for the Ottawa Centre are gratefully accepted.

Our gathering place will be the Parkdale Park right next to the Parkdale Market. We 'll walk together in a planned route on the sidewalks in the area. Please dress for the weather and bring strollers, wagons or backpacks for small children. Glow wands will be provided. Please feel free to bring lanterns, twinkle lights, or whatever you like to help celebrate the light.
If anyone has some songs to mark the occasion you are welcome to lead the group in song as we walk.
After, we will return to the park to safely socialize outside and share stories. Tara has a Solstice story for us. Please bring a thermos of hot chocolate or your favourite warm drink.
The weather that evening will determine how long we feel like staying.
You must register for this event so I will be able to contact you in case of inclement weather (also so I can make sure everyone gets a glow-wand!) Please indicate in the comment section how many are coming.
