The morning session will include teachings grounded in Pema Chodron’s work on The Four Immeasurables - lovingkindness for ourselves as a basis for extending to others, compassion, the spontaneous experience of delight in other people’s good fortune, and equanimity. We will practice the easeful experience of caring using this framework, with time for discussion about the space between caring for ourselves and caring for others.

There are plenty of cushions and chairs, so for the meditation portion of the day you only need have comfortable clothing for sitting.

In the afternoon, we’ll have a rich restorative yoga practice taught by senior Iyengar Yoga instructor Donna Fornelli. In this session, we willl inquire into what “restoration” might mean, and how the physical practice of yoga can support our life.

No yoga experience is necessary. Bare feet please and no baggy pants. Bring your own yoga mat if you have one, a towel for head support and a light blanket or shawl for the guided relaxation. A few yoga mats will be provided.

Donna Fornelli is one of Canada’s most experienced Iyengar Yoga teachers. With a depth of knowledge and skill cultivated over 45 years of teaching, Donna's direct manner weaves yoga philosophy and humour to guide students of all levels and abilities. She is Managing Director of the Iyeangar Yoga Ottawa Gatineau Center and Director of Teacher Training.  Donna is a founding member and Past President of the Iyengar Yoga Association of Canada (IYAC) and sits on the IYAC Professional Development Committee.

Alexis Shotwell is a long-time practitioner in the Shambhala tradition and has been a certified meditation instructor and teacher since 2000.
