We live in a time suffused with hardship; we hear about war, poverty, and natural disasters on the news, our friends and families suffer various kinds of sickness or other difficulties, and we experience our own struggles. When the world is filled with overwhelming suffering, can practice help? In this class, we’ll discuss how Shambhala Buddhist practices of generating loving-kindness, transforming the mind, and practicing compassion can be useful ways for working with the challenges of living. Core practices will be Tonglen and contemplating the Four Immeasurables. The class is open to everyone, but we recommend having an introduction to sitting meditation.
